How to Cover Lattice Patio Wood
- 1). Measure the size of the lattice wood panel. Obtain enough fabric to completely cover the panel plus an additional 4 inches on each size.
- 2). Fold the edge of the fabric over 1 inch and then again on each side of the four sides. Iron each fold. The raw cut edge of the fabric shouldn't be visible from either side of the lattice.
- 3). Decide whether you want the fabric to peek through the lattice work when installed or if you prefer just to have the fabric's pattern visible and completely hide the lattice work. Lay the fabric on the floor face up if you want the pattern to peek through the lattice, or face down if you want the fabric to cover the lattice. Lay the lattice work over the fabric. Staple each corner of the fabric to the lattice by pulling the fabric taunt and 2 inches over the lattice work.
- 4). Staple the fabric to the lattice work in the middle, pulling it taut. Continue stapling the fabric alternating between the sides until it you have secured it to the lattice work every 6 inches.
- 5). Re-attach the lattice work to the patio. The completely covered fabric side may be turned toward the patio or the wood side with the fabric showing through may be used toward the patio.
- 1). Count the rows of diamond-shaped openings in the lattice work. A standard 4-foot-by-8-foot piece of lattice has 15 of these diamond-shaped rows. Obtain enough grosgrain ribbon to fill each row. For example 15 rows with each row being 8 feet long would require 40 yards of ribbon.
- 2). Weave the ribbon in and out of each lattice work row from top to bottom.
- 3). Attach the ribbon to the lattice by tying it at the top and bottom or stapling it. Use strips of cut fabric instead of ribbon for a less expensive project.
