How to Set Up the Extension Arms on a Massage Table
- 1). Determine if the arm rest you purchased is meant to be a permanent feature on the massage table, or if it's the type that can slip on and off depending on your planned massage treatment.
- 2). If the arm rest is a permanent fixture, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Each massage table is different, and you should confirm that the arm rest will fit with your brand. Permanent arm cradles require you to screw a hinge into the cross brace of a massage table.
- 3). If you've purchased a removable arm cradle, adjust the head rest. Most arm extensions attach themselves to the bars that provide support to the head rest, so you'll need to get the head rest in position before you attach the extension.
- 4). Hang the extension from the support bars of the head cradle. Once it is in place, your client should be able to drape his or her arms over the table and rest them on this shelf.
- 5). Drape the shelf properly. Use proper hygiene practices on the table's extension. A pillowcase can prove an effective drape due to the small surface area. Disposable paper barriers can also be used.
- 6). Before the session begins, check in with your client. Make sure they are comfortable. You may have to adjust the head rest to ensure maximum comfort during the treatment.
