How to Speed Up Internet Speed on a Phone
- 1). Enable 3G data connections. Most phones have a setting in the wireless settings to enable or disable 3G connections. Some phones, like the T-Mobile G1, may have this feature disabled to conserve battery life. Go into the wireless settings, choose the option to enable 3G connections and exit the wireless settings.
- 2). Set up the Wi-Fi connection if the phone is equipped with Wi-Fi. All current smartphones, including iPhones, Android handsets and the BlackBerry Storm, are capable of using Wi-Fi for data connections. In the "Wireless Settings" menu, go to the "Wi-Fi" submenu. Set up the Wi-Fi connection, entering a password for the network if necessary, and save the configuration.
- 3). Use a mobile proxy service like Mobtimizer or URL Wash (see Resources). If the network connection has a poor signal and no Wi-Fi connection is available, use a mobile proxy service to help speed up slow connections. Point the phone's browser to the proxy site, enter the URL you wish to browse to and the proxy will fetch the page more quickly than would be possible by the phone itself.
