Traditional Nautical Attire

    Simplicity

    • The nautical look is quite classic, being simple in its lines. The person wearing sailor-inspired clothing looks fresh and clean and concentrates on simplicity. Accessories and jewelry, in particular, are kept to a minimum, perhaps just a watch and simple gold chain.

    Trousers

    • Nautical trousers can vary quite a lot. The color is frequently white, but may be in a French navy, or even black. Well-cut white jeans would also fit the look. Trousers may be cut wide, as in the original sailor's pants, or may be fitted. Contrast light trousers with a dark top, or vice versa.

    Tops

    • Tops may be fitted, or a loose white shirt can be worn. Some people wear a white or cream shirt with navy blue or red piping. Horizontal stripes are very much associated with the sailor look. They are often black or navy on a white background. The cut of the T-shirt or top is simple, with a boat-cut neckline.

    Other nautical details.

    • The colors are mainly white, cream, French navy, black and red. For day wear, simple canvas deck shoes are often worn without socks. The look can be dressed up in the evening with the addition of more dressy shoes or sandals. Gold can be added, but with the traditional nautical style, less is definitely more. A well-cut blazer can also be worn to make the look a little more formal.
