How to Create a Floral Arrangement for a Bedside Table

    • 1). Start with a clean container. Choose one that is an appropriate size to fit onto your bedside table and still allow room for other necessities. Consider small containers such as mason jars, small pitchers or coffee cups. Wash the container with warm, soapy water, followed by a thorough rinsing. Fill it with fresh, lukewarm water and a proportional amount of floral food according to the packet's directions.

    • 2). Remove any foliage that will fall below the water line from all stems. Foliage in the water will deteriorate and cause bacteria buildup, which can shorten flowers' vase life.

    • 3). Arrange several stems of flowers in your hand to form a mounded shape. Continue to add stems until you reach a size that works well for your container. Twist the stems so that they create a pyramid-shaped base. This will allow each stem to hold up the others in your container.

    • 4). Measure the height of your container by holding your flowers next to it. Use the container's height to determine how much length to trim from each flower stem. The blooms should form a mound of blossoms that sit just above the container's lip. Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut off the stems to your predetermined length.

    • 5). Place the arrangement of blossoms into your container. The mounded form of this design will sit low in the container and make it less vulnerable to tipping. Set it on your bedside table for a soothing display of beauty, color and texture.
