In its genuine and originally intended form, tantra practice is a profound, deep and lifelong commitment.
Along the way of practicing ancient tantra techniques under the tutelage of an experienced tantra teacher, the student learns to redefine his or her sexuality.
However, no tantra master worth his salt will cut short the very essential process of initiation and enlightenment in order to pander to a new student's preoccupation with sex.
Tantra sexuality is something to be developed in the process of spiritual evolution - it is most certainly not a feasible goal by itself.
It is natural for a student curious about tantra sexuality to ask for shortcuts from the tantra master.
Popular hype has given this ancient art of love and life an unwholesome aura of eroticism.
These impressions have been promulgated by self-serving charlatans who - under the guide of authentic tantra masters - seek to exploit innate craven desires.
When they talk of turning you into a tantra goddess or tantra god, they obviously have no clue about what genuine tantra is all about.
Tantra is not all about sex, though sex is certainly an important channel of instruction tantra practice.
It is a science that was developed to train the mind and body by harnessing unformed desires and drives into something spiritual and beautiful.
Tantric sex techniques are taught only at an advanced stage of this training.
Before this happens, the tantra teacher should have instructed his student in controlling the various flows of energy within the body and mind.
If this has not happened, the entire process of instruction is corrupted and fruitless.
Tantric practice requires us to control and transform our physical energies, of which sexual energy is among the strongest and most predominant.
While erotic pleasure is certainly a divine gift that must be accepted reverently and gratefully, we must not forget that the sexual act itself is a basic act of procreation.
The central idea is that the species survives, and Nature has ensured that this happens by making it the most pleasurable act possible.
Sex should neither be vilified nor over-hyped - it should primarily be understood as a strong source of physical energy.
Your tantra master will teach his students how to transform this physical energy into divine energy as well.
However, this cannot happen before the student of tantra has taken a deep dive into the divine aspects of this science.
Physical energy can then be transformed safely and fruitfully into spiritual energy, and the practice of tantra sex becomes possible and desirable.
The facets of ancient tantra pertaining to sexual intimacy must not be governed by base lust and carnal desire, but by a genuine desire to elevate one's partner to the status of tantra goddess or tantra god.
The desire and willingness to adore and cherish one's partner as a divine manifestation is an act of worship.
This worship involves rituals from which both partners benefit tremendously, both physically and spiritually.
In this process, the tantra teacher plays the role of an accomplished mediator who guides his student in harvesting sexual energy so that it leads to spiritual advancement.
