    • 1). Place the washer and dryer square to each other and spaced apart as you want them to sit on the pedestal platform.

    • 2). Measure the combined width of the washer and dryer across the faces, including the space between them, using a tape measure. Record this dimension as the length of the pedestal.

    • 3). Measure the full depth, including the space behind required for the drain and hoses. Manufacturers typically recommend 3 to 4 inches from the rear wall and parallel. This will be the depth of the pedestal platform.

    • 4). Cut two pieces of 2-by-8 lumber to the width dimension plus 4 inches. These are the edge joists for the front and back of the platform.

    • 5). Cut four pieces of 2-by-8 lumber to the depth dimension minus 3 inches. These will be the cross joists for the platform.

    • 6). Divide the length of the cut 2-by-8 pieces in three equal parts. Place both pieces together, flush on the ends, and mark the three sections on the edge of the boards. Use a hand square to carry the marks onto both pieces.

    • 7). Separate the two pieces to allow the cross joists between the boards and centered on the lines. Position the two cross joists at each end flush with the end of the longer edge joists. Attach the cross joists with four evenly spaced 3-inch wood screws through the edge joists and into both ends of each cross joist.

    • 8). Cut a piece of ¾-inch plywood to the outside dimensions of the platform joist assembly. Use a framing square to ensure the plywood piece is cut with square corners.

    • 9). Lay the piece of ¾-inch plywood on top of the joist assembly, keeping the plywood flush at all the perimeter edges. Attach to the plywood to the joist assembly with 1¼-inch wood screws. The platform is complete and ready for painting and/or installation.

Remove the washer and dryer from the platform area and position the platform in place. Lift the washer and dryer onto the platform and into position. Reconnect the hoses, drain line and power cords.
