How to Stop Sweat Marks

    • 1). Consult your doctor if excessive sweating is a major issue. You could have hyperhidrosis, which is a common disorder which results in excess sweating of the body. Your doctor may suggest specific medications, topical antiperspirants or even surgery if that is the case.

    • 2). Use an antiperspirant, which stops sweating before it can stain your shirt. Antiperspirants are different from deodorants, which help cover up odors caused by sweating. According to Medline Plus, choose a strong antiperspirant that contains 10 to 15 percent aluminum chloride hexahrydate.

    • 3). Wear comfortable clothing made of breathable fabric like cotton and linen. Since these natural fabrics are loose and promote air flow, you'll be less likely to leave embarrassing stains. Wearing heavier or synthetic fabrics like polyester or nylon, as well as tighter fitting clothing, can increase the likelihood of sweat marks. Look for 100-percent cotton T-shirts to wear underneath your dress shirts and sweaters. Cotton shirts are also easy to launder and clean.

    • 4). Dress appropriately for the weather or the office. This keeps you from getting too hot and sweaty. Dressing in layers is ideal since you can take off layers as needed.

    • 5). Wear darker clothing like navy, black or brown. Light clothing shows sweat marks easily, while darker clothing can hide the stain. This can also help avoid the yellowish sweat stains common with wearing white shirts.
