Being You: An Important Life Skill

103 3
I always thought and still do believe that the most important life skills involve financial management, time management and organization.
As I wrote my first book on life skills, that was my first chapter.
But, as I have researched more and more in relation to life skills, I am beginning to see something more important.
This importance revolves around you.
Everything you do or have done in life is for you.
Yes, there might be others involved, but at the end the day it is about you.
I am not saying you should be selfish.
What I am saying is that when you put yourself first, when you take the time to learn and understand you, everything/everyone that are/become a part of your life are the right fit.
When you are in a space where you know your true self than the right people, the right career and so forth become connected with the true you.
It is not about perfection because I truly believe that does not exist.
It is about you constantly evolving.
You are becoming a better version of you.
You are becoming a better human being.
This seeking/changing that you learn/search for is a neverending process.
To think this is bad right off is not the right path to walk on.
To look for you, you have to be willing to walk through walls, to keep moving forward through challenges and to keep learning about you and how you are connected to life.
Now how do you get there is based on you and your choices.
I am not saying what will be the right choices or the wrong choices, but you have to look beyond and sometimes see the gray area.
You have to be open.
You have to learn to see the positive in everything.
Behind it all are the solutions, the answers to questions and insight to life itself.
There is so much information, people, etc.
out there that it will be overwhelming at times.
But, if you tell yourself to always keep it simple (something I constantly have to remind myself on a daily basis), you will begin to see the bigger picture.
How do I do it? I can tell you it has taken years, but I make every effort to learn each and every day.
This can be done through books.
I am always reading about new things such as stuff on social media.
I read books about spiritual awareness.
I read fiction books just to work on my imagination.
I read about hobbies I am interested in.
If something catches my intrigue I read about it.
I keep a gratitude journal.
Nothing is more powerful than understanding the importance of being grateful for what you have rather than what you don't have.
It took me awhile to be consistent with it, but once I have, it is the most rewarding thing I have done in a long time.
It puts me in the present without dwelling on the past or focusing too much on the future.
I am in the now each and every day.
Something else I am doing is figuring out who I want in my life.
When you are changing yourself, there are certain things and people that you realize don't belong in your life anymore.
This might sound harsh at first, but do you want people/things in your life that bring you down and keep you from moving forward? If your answer is no than this is something you have to do.
It is not fun, but it is a part of life and a part of you becoming you.
They say that every person comes in your life for a reason.
It is the same for people going out of your life.
I did not enjoy this at first, but has I worked on changing my mentality (becoming positive), I could see why it had to happen.
When you have a more positive attitude, you become more aware of the negativity that surrounds you.
This energy shift you feel is unbelievable.
You begin to truly understand how you begin to know yourself.
You become so aware of what is right for you and what is not right for you.
When this shift happens, you feel like your life has truly begun.
Life skills are a life learning process.
There are so many things that fall in this category.
If someone were to ask me which one is the most important, I would say becoming you.
When you take the step to move towards you, everything else will start to fall in place.
