Container Gardening Ideas for Using Burgundy Geraniums
- Burgundy geraniums planted with trailing white bacopa or verbena would be perfect for your apartment or condo window boxes. Use one or two plastic, metal or wooden window boxes to display geraniums along the length of your patio and attach the boxes to the top railing of your balcony or patio with brackets or clips. White boxes offer a contrast to the burgundy color of your geraniums and the other trailing plants cascade over your balcony rails, creating a garden oasis for outdoor enjoyment.
- Prop up a wheelbarrow at an angle against a wall in your backyard. Fill it with potting soil and add geraniums to provide visual and aromatic appeal. For spectacular color around a focal point, place burgundy geraniums toward the center front of the wheelbarrow and complement the arrangement by adding one or two other varieties of geranium. The ivy-leafed geraniums with their trailing stems and the scented type of geraniums that come in a kaleidoscope collection of shapes, sizes and color will provide a container that is unusual, attractive and fragrant.
- Coconut fiber or moss-lined hanging baskets dress up any home style. Place several burgundy plants into the potting soil in each basket so the entire basket is full. Tuck white lobelia between each geranium plant and around the outside of the basket. The multitude of glistening white blossoms with gracefully trailing foliage highlight the rich burgundy color of your geraniums. Hang baskets around your garden where they can enjoy full sun with some afternoon shade.
- Create an outdoor art wall on your white fence. Paint several similar-sized terracotta pots in a variety of pastel colors and fill them with potting soil. Insert one or two burgundy geranium plants in each pot. Secure pot hangers to your fence and hang the pots in a grid fashion along the fence. This container arrangement is appealing and adds pizazz to a garden.
