Nissan Sentra Car Stereo Removal

    Safety

    • Before removing your stereo, or any other component connected electronically, you need to disconnect the negative battery cable from the Sentra's battery. The negative cable is black and connects the battery to the frame of the Nissan. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the cable's clamp. Remove the clamp from the negative lead post and rest it away from the battery.

    Accessing and Removing the Stereo

    • To gain access to the stereo deck, you need to remove the trim panel that surrounds the stereo. Use a flat screwdriver or a trim panel removal tool to pry the framing panel from the dash. Once the panel is pried free from the dash, disconnect the wire connections that are attached to the hazard switch and defrost button. Grab the wire connections by the plastic wire binders, not the wires themselves. Remove the panel completely from the dash.

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws on either side of the stereo mounting bracket. Pull the stereo straight out of its dock. Pull the unit far enough to access the wire connections at the rear of the stereo.

Pull the wire groups from the stereo by grabbing the groups at the white plastic binders, not the wires. After the antenna, speakers, amplifier and power supply groups have been detached, the stereo will be completely disconnected from the Nissan.

    Finishing Your Work

    • After removing the stereo, you will need to reconnect the negative battery cable. If you plan to install a new deck or install the factory stereo after repair or addition, connect the negative battery cable once you are finished. If you need to operate the vehicle before installing the stereo, place the negative battery cable's clamp around the negative lead post. Tighten the clamp using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Tighten the clamp until it cannot be moved around the lead by hand.
