What Kind of Fertilizer Does Streptocarpus Like?
- The leaves of cape primrose are oblong and leathery, with a slightly fuzzy texture. When the plant blooms, its trumpet-shaped flowers rise above the foliage on stalks with no leaves. Flower colors include white, blue, pink, violet and deep red. Hybrid varieties have even more colors and some of their flowers are scented.
- Cornell University recommends giving Streptocarpus a plant food high in phosphate once each month. You may choose fertilizer designed for African violets.
- Potting soil that drains very quickly will benefit Streptocarpus: Too much water may kill the plant. It requires bright indirect light and, according to the University of Illinois Extension, a daytime environment of 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Nighttime temperatures should range from 45 to 65 degrees.
