Achieving Success - Know What You Want to Achieve Success in Life

To say that the key to achieving success in life is to know what you want sounds rather simplistic.
But the fact is that too many people say that they don't know what they want and this, unfortunately, proves to be their undoing.
Personal development expert and star of the movie "The Secret" famously says: "Tell me what you want and I'll show you how to get it.
"
What a seemingly irresistible invitation.
And the truth is Bob Proctor is not the only one saying this to you.
This is something that the Universe silently and continuously whispers to each and every one of us every day.
But the trouble is that too many people don't even take the time to identify what they want - no wonder they feel frustrated and unfulfilled.
In an online forum a young girl recently asked what she should request for her birthday.
Now, if this person couldn't even identify what they wanted for their birthday, what was the likelihood of her being able to define what she generally wanted out of life itself? And, asking this question of a group of strangers, regardless of how well-intentioned those strangers may be, sets a rather dangerous precedent.
You see many people end up living other people's lives and this is one way in which this happens - by asking other people to make your decisions for you.
As Jim Rohn says, "You can't hire someone else to do your push-ups for you.
"
And this pertains to mental as well as physical "push-ups".
It's imperative that to achieve success in life you have to take 100% responsibility for your life and that includes taking responsibility for deciding what you want in life.
The thing is that, deep down, people know what they want but they are afraid to articulate what they want for fear of being disappointed.
So what's a little disappointment? It's really down to how you perceive that disappointment because if you ask for something and don't get it you're really no worse off than before you asked.
Now, it may be that what this young girl secretly desired was expensive or difficult to come by.
Yet, by expressing her desire and believing that she could attain what she wanted she would be putting into motion processes by which she could get what she wanted.
But it's not enough to vaguely know what you want.
You must be able to clearly identify what you want.
You don't go to an architect and say build me a house.
The architect needs to know where the house will be built, the overall size, the types of rooms you want included, the numbers of various rooms, the orientation of the house, who the house will be for and what the house will be used for and so on.
The more detail you're able to give the architect the more closely the architect will be able to design your ideal home.
It costs nothing to dream.
Once you identify what you want the Universe will show you how to achieve your dream and this will generally mean that you have to do some work to achieve your goal.
And this is where people also become unstuck because, generally the more ambitious the goal, the more work that has to be done in order to achieve the goal.
And some people are simply not prepared to do what is necessary to achieve their goal because they perceive that it's just too hard.
The reality is that it's much harder to live a life where you are not getting what you want out of life simply because in the first place you're too fearful to express your wants and secondly you don't want to put the effort in to achieve your goals.
