How to Build a Wood Tabletop Podium
- 1). Draw a diagonal line from one top corner of the 3/4-by-3-by-12-inch hardwood plywood board to the opposing bottom corner using a straight edge and a pencil.
- 2). Cut along the pencil line with a table saw to cut the board in half diagonally. This will create two triangular shaped boards. These are the podium sides.
- 3). Sand the wood parts with fine grit sandpaper. Be sure to sand with the grain.
- 4). Place the podium sides on a work surface parallel to each other and approximately 18-inches apart. Place the sides that were cut on the work surface so that the boards are upright.
- 5). Apply a bead of wood glue along the top (3/4-inch) edge of each of the podium sides. Place the 3/4-by-12-by-18-inch hardwood plywood board on top of the sides. Wipe off any excess glue with a damp rag. This is the podium top.
- 6). Fasten the podium top to the sides by hammering finish nails spaced every two inches through the podium top down into the sides.
- 7). Apply a bead of wood glue on the bottom edge of the podium top. Place the 1-by-1-by-18 hardwood strip on the bottom edge of the podium top. Wipe any excess glue off with a damp rag. Fasten the strip in place using a hammer to drive finish nails through the strip down into the podium top. The strip holds any books or papers in place on the podium.
- 8). Apply a wood finish of your choice with a paint brush. Allow the finish to dry before use.
