How To Manage Acne

103 7
Acne-infected skin needs special care as it is extremely sensitive to make-up, cosmetics, diet, pollutants and stress.
There is no single effective treatment available in combating acne and finding suitable ones for your skin can be frustrating and time consuming.
A specialized regime has to be used for each individual.
The only way to manage acne is to clean, prevent and treat.
Once your acne has cleared up it is vital to continue with the treatment to prevent further outbreaks as there is no permanent cure for acne.
Start by cleaning your skin regularly with a cleanser appropriate to your skin type.
Your dermatologist or a good skin care consultant will recommend one.
Avoid fragranced soaps and cleansers and clean your skin at least twice daily with a mild cleanser.
Wash your hair regularly to avoid spreading of grease and oil to your face, neck and back.
A light exfoliater may be used once or twice weekly to remove dead skin where bacteria may hide.
Use a mild astringent if you have a very oily skin, but use it sparingly to avoid irritating the skin which can lead to more outbreaks.
Even though a clean skin is important, a healthy diet, exercise and general health are all factors in preventing acne.
Smoking and exposure to excessive sun and pollutant can also contribute to unhealthy skin.
The effective treatment of acne infection can include reducing sebum production; reducing bacteria by exfoliating to remove dead skin and unclog pores; reducing inflammation of the skin; hormone based treatments and lastly acne surgery by a dermatologist.
Your dermatologist may even subscribe a antibiotic to eliminate inflammation and bacteria.
Be wary of over the counter treatments as some of them can be quite harsh and irritating to the skin, in some cases worsening the infection.
Your dermatologist will advice you on which products are safe to use.
Never be tempted to squeeze a pimple as this will spread the infection.
Keep your hands away from infected skin and only clean your skin after a thorough scrubbing of your hands.
By following the above strategies you can be sure of results and will be able to control future acne outbreaks.
