Understanding What Acne Is

Acne is a skin complaint that manifests itself in the form of raised pimples, which can leave scars and permanent damage to your skin.
This can be most disfiguring and distressing to those who suffer the effects of it.
Self-confidence can be damaged and often sufferers will withdraw into themselves, feeling depressed and unable to socialize with friends.
The major cause of acne is blocked pores which are the first stage in the process which leads to a full blown acne break out.
Let's consider the causes and stages of acne further: The first stage is where whitehead and blackheads begin to block the pores.
Blackheads are known as open comedones and whiteheads are known as closed comedones.
Once the pores have become blocked, the outbreak of pimples appears.
The technical terms for these blemishes are papules and pustules.
They can often become red and inflamed.
Acne can appear in many different areas including the face, neck, body and limbs.
In fact, they can develop absolutely anywhere that we have sebaceous glands.
Your skin generates and oil which is called sebum.
Sometimes too much sebum is produced which can also block the pores.
The excess sebum can become trapped in the skin (unable to drain from the blocked pore) and infection then sets in.
People of all ages and skin types can suffer from acne.
Some people who did not suffer from acne when they were teenagers are unfortunate enough to develop it later in life.
Acne is a very distressing problem.
The good news is that it can be healed, with the right treatment.
