How to Make Custom Jeans Appliqued for Children
- 1). Iron on sewable heat 'n bond to the back of the fabric you will use for the appliqué design. Do this before cutting out your designs.
- 2). Cut out your designs or prints from your fabric. When using prints, cut about one-quarter inch outside of the picture's outline to leave room for sewing.
- 3). Lay out your fabric design on the jeans, and iron it on. The heat 'n' bond will hold it in place while you sew.
- 4). Use your sewing machine set to a decorative stitch to sew around the edges of each piece of fabric. This tightly holds the appliqué to the jeans and gives it a finished look.
- 1). Turn the jeans inside out.
- 2). Pin the appliqué fabric to the jeans where you want the design to appear. Make sure the face of the fabric is against the jeans. Pin a piece of sturdy backing material to the back of the fabric.
- 3). Sew around the edge of the appliqué fabric and backing to attach them to the jeans. Turn the jeans right-side-out.
- 4). Carefully cut away the section of denim covering the fabric design. Follow the outline of your stitching and leave a quarter-inch margin. When you wash the jeans, that edge will fray, giving the jeans a rugged look.
