Care of Eco Drive Watches
- Eco-drive watches are designed to maintain a charge using both natural and artificial light. To maintain a steady charge, wear often outdoors or in well-lit areas. When fully charged, the secondary battery maintains a charge for up to six months. If storing the watch in a dark place for more than six months, exposure to light is the only way to recharge the battery. Refer to the owner's manual for additional instruction if storing the watch for prolonged periods of time. A low-charge warning lets you know that the battery needs to be recharged. Eco-drive watches include overcharge protection so you do not have to worry about overcharging the battery.
- High or low temperatures can interfere with internal components in Eco-drive watches, which can result an incorrect display of time. While time-telling accuracy will return after a while, exposure to extreme temperature or rapid temperature fluctuations can lessen the life span of the power cell. Avoid wearing the watch while taking a shower or when sitting in a sauna. Do not wear the watch in extremely cold environments.
- Eco-drive watches should be kept away from large appliances, electronics and accessories that have a powerful magnetic field. Keep watches away from microwave ovens, large televisions, magnetic bracelets, magnetic coin trays, cell phone speakers and computer monitors. Exposure to strong magnetic fields can cause incorrect time keeping.
- Leather watch straps should be wiped off occasionally using a dry cloth to prevent buildup of dirt and sweat. The inside of the strap should be cleaned periodically using a dry cloth and rubbing alcohol. Metal bracelet and rubber straps should be cleaned as well using a dry cloth and hand washing soap. Try to avoid getting water on the watch face when cleaning. Take the watch to a jewelry repair shop for a thorough cleaning once a year.
- Eco-drive watches should be inspected every two to three years to ensure the watch continues to operate correctly for years to come. Citizen Watches recommends sending the watch to one of their Citizen Authorized Service Centers for inspection. There is a fee for this service, but internal components such as the battery, seals and gaskets will be checked thoroughly and replaced or repaired if necessary.
