How to Make a Window Box Seat
- 1). Place two 18-by-36-inch plywood panels parallel to each other so that they are approximately 16 1/2 inches apart. The 3/4-by-36-inch edges should be flat against the work surface. These are the box seat sides.
- 2). Insert one 18-by-16 1/2 inch panel between the two sides to form a rectangular box. These are the ends. The 3/4-by-16 1/2-inch edges should be flat against the work surface.
- 3). Drive flush trim wood screws through the sides into the edges of the ends. Space the screws evenly every three inches using a screw gun.
- 4). Place an 18-by-36-inch plywood panel over the box. This is the bottom. Align the edges so that they are flush with the sides and ends. Drive flush trim screws through the bottom into the edges of the sides and ends every 3 inches.
- 5). Turn the box seat over so that it is upright. Align the remaining 18-by-36-inch panel over the assembly so that it is flush with the sides and ends. This is the seat/lid.
- 6). Hold the lid in the open position and center the hinge between the seat/lid and back side. Drive the provided screws through the holes in the hinge into the wood.
- 7). Place the 24-by-36-inch plywood panel on the back side of the box seat with the 3/4-by-36-inch edge flat against the work surface. This is the box seat back. Drive flush trim screws through the box seat back into the edges of the sides and bottom of the box seat assembly.
- 8). Fill the screw holes with wood putty using a putty knife. Allow the putty to dry. Sand the putty flush with the surface of the wood.
- 9). Paint the window box seat. Allow the paint to dry prior to handling it.
