Voting: Not Just A Right, But A Responsibility

103 5
In America, every single adult citizen is entitled the right to vote vote.
This right was fought for and died for.
Many citizens of this day and age forget what kind of truly gigantic effort was made just in order achieve that right.
In the new digital era our auditory and visual senses are constantly inundated with noise, and images from the television, the internet.
This leads to cultural motion sickness and disorientation resulting in blurring the lines between what is of true value and what is really, truly without value whatsoever.
It is in the interest of the bad people out there that people do keep a real amount of what should be called cultural ADHD.
So long as every day citizens are having their attention dragged away from the things of actual substance it ensures they are truly unlikely to ever take the time to educate themselves on issues, and certainly not the personal histories of any politicians.
Does the person you're voting for have a previous history of keeping their word? Would you even know? Or do they make huge promises knowing not a single individual will ever remember what they said six months in the past? If they manage to keep you chasing your tail long enough, they will never even have the need to worry their minds for a moment about you or anyone else noticing any of them telling a lie to the media.
Of course, political figures do not always lie on purpose.
Sometimes they simply make promises that they find really difficult to keep at later dates when the mounting pressures of their office begin to crush them.
Nonetheless, overpromising and then consequently underdelivering ultimately somebody has to take responsibility for.
It is unfortunate that most people are too pre-occupied taking care of their every day lives to have any idea of their candidate's history before they walk into that voting booth.
Every voting day you are likely to hear people giving the admonishment for every person of voting age to get out and vote.
However, if you are not firmly decided on who to vote for until just a few moments before the time to vote then you are totally disrespecting of the privilege in the first place.
Please do get out in vote, but before you do, make sure that you really do know the individual you are voting for is a person of integrity.
If you don't, then you should try harder the next time in advance.
