    • 1). Create a playlist, or different folders and files, by clicking on the create a playlist button at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window. An empty playlist is then added to your list of playlists on the left side of the iTunes window, which remains highlighted so the name of the playlist can be renamed to a specific name. Once you type the name of the folder press enter.

    • 2). Create a playlist that will only appear on your iPod and not in iTunes. Connect your iPod to the computer and then turn on the manual update feature, which can be done by clicking on your iPod's icon under devices on the left hands side of the window. The iPod's summary will appear and provide the option to manually manage music that needs to be checked. Click on the iPod in the source list and then click on the gray triangle to show a list of the playlists that are already located on your iPod. Now click on the create playlist button to create an empty folder, which will be highlighted to provide the option of renaming it. Once the folder is created, drag and drop the songs that you wish to only appear on your iPod into the folder.

    • 3). Place an asterisk (*) before the name of a new playlist if you would like the folder to appear out of order and not in alphabetical order. Double click directly over the playlist name and renam it.
