Digging a coy pond
Decide the best place for a Koi pond. There are several types of ponds you can buy. Some ponds require you to dig a large hole in the ground while others are made from a molded type of pond that can be either put in a hole in the ground or can sit on top of the ground with rocks holding it up and covering the outside so that you cannot see the liner. Choose there kind of pond you would like and that will help you decide where you would put the pond in your yard. - 2
After you've decided where you want to put your pond you can add plants around the pond. There is a large variety of plants that will work well around a Koi pond. Flowers that look tropical are a great addition during spring. - 3
If you choose and on top of the ground type of pond you'll need to purchase large brick type of stones to surround the pond to hold it up. You can then add plants to the inside of the pond such as lily pads and plants that grown in water. - 4

Add your fountain! After you have your pond in/on the ground add your fountain to the water. - 6
You can visit plant nurseries and talk to professionals about what plants work well in your climate. Add your plants by digging holes and planting around the outside of the pond. Add water and don't forget to treat with chlorine remover. After the water has been treated, add your fish. - 7
