What Is an SACD?
- The process by which SACDs are recorded is known as direct stream digital (DSD), which samples sound at 2.88 million cycles per second, or 2.88MHz (megahertz), 64 times faster than standard CD.
- To enjoy the superior sound quality of SACD in all its glory you need a compatible SACD or DVD player, and a preamplifier or AV receiver.
- Although support for SACD has not been dropped by Sony, the format has not received widespread support within the audio industry as a replacement for standard CD.
