When you have more than four infections in a year, you have a condition known as recurring yeast infection.
There are many things than can cause this to happen.
This article will discuss some of the common causes of recurring infections.
Birth control Birth control is one of the most common causes of these infections.
This is likely caused by the level of progestogen used in that specific pill.
Brands like Levelen that use stronger progestogen usually cause the infections to recur more often.
Some women have reported that their recurring infection has gotten better after discontinuation of the pill.
It normally takes three months off of the pill to tell.
Food Another cause of recurring infections is food, especially sugars and sweet treats.
Candid albicans is the yeast that causes the infection.
It helps the body digest sugars and can get out of control when it is given too much sugar to feed on.
Moisture Moisture trapped around the vagina can also be the cause of repeated infections.
Wear tight pants and pantyhose can trap moisture in areas that rub together and provide a breeding ground for yeast.
After exercising, bathing, or swimming, you should make sure to dry off well down there to prevent excess moisture from building up.
Diabetes Repeat infections can also be caused by diabetes.
Women who have diabetes have a much higher risk of getting an infection.
This is because the yeast feeds on certain sugars like glycogen and glucose.
If the level of these sugars are not controlled well and allowed to get high, you will likely experience recurring yeast infection.
Immune system changes One of the last causes of infections that recur is a change in the immune system.
This can be caused by taking antibiotics or other medications.
The yeast is no longer effectively controlled by the immune system and causing an infection.
Women who have HIV are also at risk for recurring yeast infection.
There are a variety of things that can cause recurring infections.
Some of the most common are birth control pills, trapped moisture, and foods with lots of sugar.
