How to Make Your Own Countertops With Pebbles
- 1). Measure and cut the plywood to the length and width you want the counter to be.
- 2). Measure and cut the wood trim to frame the plywood. The frame should rise 1 to 2 inches above the plywood base, or higher if the pebbles are bigger. The frame needs to hold the resin in place. Attach the frame with wood glue.
- 3). Caulk the inner trim where the trim meets the plywood to create a seal where the resin can't seep through. Allow the caulk to cure overnight.
- 4). Mix the resin in a bucket with water. Follow the manufacturer's label for ratios since each brand is different. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling the resin fumes.
- 5). Pour the pebbles on the plywood and smooth them out with the trowel. Evenly distribute pebbles to cover all areas within the frame.
- 6). Pour the resin mixture over the pebbles. Smooth over with the trowel until the resin sits flush with the wood trim.
- 7). Let the resin dry for 24 hours. Check the balance with a level and add another layer of resin if required.
- 8). Sand the resin with fine grit sandpaper for a smooth, level finish.
