How to Dye Sewing Snaps
- 1). Purchase white plastic snaps from any sewing or craft store. Gather desired shades of RIT powder dye.
- 2). Lay newsprint sheets over a table or other flat surface and put on rubber gloves.
- 3). Mix 2 tsp. powder with 1 cup of hot water in a plastic bowl and stir until dissolved to prepare the dye. Add more dye to darken the shade or more water to lighten the color.
- 4). Immerse sewing snaps in dye for 2 to 5 minutes and stir occasionally. Remove snaps when they achieve the desired hue.
- 5). Rinse buttons under warm water, then wash thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse a second time and pat dry.
- 6). Sort buttons into mason jars to store colors separately and save time during retrieval.
