What's all the Fuss Over Truffle Oil about?
With more and more Truffle Oils coming into the market there is no excuse for not trying out some of these dishes. The only thing you should be careful about is the really cheap oils from some supermarkets that don't taste truly like Truffles. Spend a bit more money on a bottle of Truffle Oil and you will definitely notice the difference! Trust me, I have been cooking with the stuff for years!
Now what to cook? Well Truffle Oil is used as a finishing product as it loses its flavour when it is exposed to high temperatures. This oil isn't for coating the bottom of a frying pan! Due to Truffle Oil being a finishing product it is incredibly versatile.
Let's start off with a side dish that will accompany most meals, Truffle Chips. Simply make your chips how you normally would and drizzle some Truffle Oil over them when done. Toss them with your hands and you have a side dish sorted. Now for the main!
There are so many dishes you could make from finger food like Pizza, to an Asparagus Risotto. The great thing about this product is the way that you don't need to change a dish to incorporate it into your cooking. You can add it to anything if you want! The best tip for using Truffle Oil is to use a little bit at a time, especially with ‘super strength' and ‘super concentrated' oils that can be quite overpowering if you add too much to a dish. You can always add more oil if you want but you can't take it out of a dish! Another good tip is to use it on bland dishes such as pasta and rice based dishes. Using Truffle Oil on a dish that doesn't have strong flavours is advised as you don't get a clash of flavour and you can also taste the Truffle that bit more, which is of course why we use it!
The crazy over Truffle Oil started building momentum in 2010 and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon! I would recommend giving it a go soon as when the next season starts you should definitely try out Truffle Oil with Fresh Truffles. There is also a huge demand for Truffles during the Christmas period so you might as well start practising using Truffle Oil!
If this has inspired you to try out Truffle Oil you may have a bit of a task finding a decent oil on the high street. Try out your local deli or if you don't have one, try online! So there really is no excuse!
