How to Build a Twin-Size Headboard
- 1). Measure the wall space behind your twin size mattress to determine the headboard's dimensions. Twin size mattresses are 39 inches wide, but you are not limited to this dimension. You can make the headboard wider to include night tables or extend it to the ceiling. Measure the headboard's desired height, starting just beneath the top of your mattress.
- 2). Cut a 3/4-inch sheet of plywood to match the headboard dimensions, using a power saw or handsaw. Place the plywood on a flat surface. Arrange the copper tiles on the center of the plywood, so that you have an equal amount of space around the perimeter. Mark the outside outline of the tiles. Remove the tiles from the plywood and set them aside.
- 3). Cut strips of batting to fit the top, bottom and both sides of the plywood, extending from the marked line over the edge and 6 inches along the backside. Attach the batting to the front of the plywood with spray adhesive.
- 4). Flip the plywood over and staple the batting securely to the back. Flip the panel back over to the front side.
- 5). Cut strips of fabric the same as you did the batting, but begin measuring the fabric 1 inch inside the marked line of your tile outline. Staple the fabric to the face of the plywood, inside the tile outlines.
- 6). Flip the panel over and staple the fabric to the backside. Flip the panel back over so the front is facing up.
- 7). Attach the copper tiles to the center of your twin-size headboard with copper nails.
- 8). Locate the wall studs behind your twin bed. Attach two wall hooks in a horizontal line on the wall. At least one hook should be attached to a wall stud. Use heavy-duty wall anchors, rather than screws, if a wall stud is not available.
- 9). Attach the other section of the wall hangers to corresponding points on the back of your twin-size headboard. Hang the headboard on the wall.
