How to Extend the Life of Flat Asphalt Roofing
- 1). Inspect your roof for areas that need repair after each season and after any storm that has considerable rain or snowfall.
- 2). Keep your roof free from debris such as tree limbs or trash from strong winds. The more often you rid the surface of debris, the longer your roof will last. Debris can cause rust formation that can damage your roof.
- 3). Check the drains coming off the roof for ice build up and debris from storms or trees. Remove any branches that seem to be cluttering the drains with leaves. Clogged drains will cause water to overflow and seep into your roof.
- 4). Paint the roof with reflective aluminum paint to keep the sun's rays from burning off the protection provided by the roofing material. This give an added protection to your roof surface.
- 5). Repair cracks, holes or scratches with roofing tar put only on the affected area or areas. Use only the amount you need and do not be tempted to spread it liberally.
