    • 1). Move the sofa to a new location in the room. Part of what is making the sofa seem old and tired is that it's in the exact same spot with the exact same furniture around it that you seen for years. Consider moving it from the center of the room to a window or corner.

    • 2). Purchase new decorative furniture for around the sofa. Even if you can't afford a new couch, you may be able to afford a new accent table and lamp. Such small changes can complete refresh the look of your couch.

    • 3). Put on new slipcovers. This is sometimes the only option for couches covered in stains and with holes. Select slipcovers built for the size and shape of your couch made from a durable, washable material that will cling naturally to each cushion.

    • 4). Add throw pillows. Throw pillows can truly transform any piece of furniture, so they are worth splurging on. Expensive-looking throw pillows can make your entire sofa look lavish. Make sure they match the rest of the decor.
