How to Level a Fish Pond
- 1). Connect the hose to the pump so that you may pump enough water out of the pond to be able to work with either the preformed plastic or liner without too much strain involved.
- 2). Pump water from the pond until you can easily lift one side of either the plastic or poly.
It is advisable to raise the low side rather than lower the high side which could cause unwanted runoff into the pond. - 3). Lift the low side of the pond and, using the shovel, begin to back fill underneath the pond with the dirt.
- 4). Place the level across the pond to check if you are close. If you don't have a level that is long enough to reach all of the way across the pond, you can use a 2-by-4 inch board to span the width of the pond and place the level upon it. Keep back filling until the pond is level.
- 5). Check the level all around the pond by rotating the level around it, making sure that all sides are even. If they are not, use the same method as described in steps 1 through 4 to correct the problem.
- 6). Replace the water in the pond after leveling, and check the level again as there will be some settling.
