Travertine tiles are also available in different varieties, like Travertine Marble, Travertine Limestone and Shell Stone. They are named so not because they are made of marble or lime, they are called so because of their overall appearance. Shell stones are called so because they form when sea shells get embedded.

They can be used anywhere in the house. Lay them on the floor of any room of the house, be it kitchen, hall way, entry floors or bathroom floors you cannot resist the feel of aesthetic. They can be also a good option for walls, like interior walls of your outdoor wall compound, bathroom walls and backsplashes, kitchen backsplashes, etc. Also use them surrounding the tub in the bathroom and make it a beautiful place for spa. You can even make your outdoor special by installing them in outdoor patios and walkways. Fireplace is another place where you can feel its appealing beauty.

With contrary to their versatility they are recommended to be used for kitchen countertops as they are porous material and can absorb any liquid material that falls on its surface. However, for every other place and application the tile is polished and coated accordingly. The type of polish and coats also depends on the intensity of their uses and type of application. Though, two basic polished travertine tiles are available for tiling €" Honed and Tumbled. Whereas honed is polished with shiny, reflective sheen texture having hard and cold feeling surface, tumbled is polished matt stone with naturally weathered appearance, plus it is softer and warmer to the touch.
