Battery Specifications for the Samsung Moment
- When fully charged, the Samsung Moment's battery holds 1,440 milliamp hours of energy, providing the phone with up to 5.5 hours of talk time. The Moment's battery life ranks well below the eight-hour average for similar devices on the market in May 2011. If the Moment you have purchased is a used model, it's unlikely you'll get this much battery life. If the phone is new, however, there are a few things you can do to maximize the phone's battery life and get it closer to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Minimizing the screen's display brightness, turning off the Wi-Fi network connection and disabling the GPS application will each help provide the Samsung Moment with a longer battery life. In addition to these tips, you can also employ more practices that will prolong the amount of time between charges, including turning off Bluetooth, disabling data and voice roaming and setting the phone's ringer volume to a low or moderate level. While these tips will do their part in helping extend the Moment's battery life, there are more specific tips that will do even more.
- The Samsung Moment comes with an assisted-GPS system that uses a combination of satellite and cellular tower signals to provide navigational functionality. As handy as this feature may be, it's an energy-guzzler that contributes greatly to draining the phone's battery. Once activated, the GPS continues to run unless you disable it. If you need the GPS to run, you can disable either the satellite or cellular tower reception, which will at least do something to prolong the battery's life.
- The Samsung Moment features a built-in 3.2-megapixel digital camera that captures images at up to 2,048 by 1,536 pixels of resolution and is capable of recording video at up to 352 by 288 pixels of resolution. Using the video-recording capability will use up a large amount of energy, contributing to a shorter battery life. Using the phone's media player to watch streaming video is another energy-eating practice you might want to minimize if battery life is important to you. Since the Moment accesses both the 2G and 3G wireless networks, you can disable one or the other to prolong the phone's battery life.
