How to Restore Wood Floors Without Sanding
- 1). Load the floor buffer with a medium screening disk, then start it. Run it along the floor, in the direction of the floor planks, moving from one end of the room to the other, taking off the top surface of the existing gloss. Do the whole floor. (Note: Do not stop moving the buffer while it's on.)
- 2). Vacuum the floor. Reload the buffer with the fine screening disk. Screen it as before, taking off any remaining shine.
- 3). Vacuum the floor. The floor should look the same as it did before, except with no shine on the surface.
- 4). Slowly stir your can of polyurethane (don't shake it). Use a wide paintbrush to apply it to the floor surface, starting at the opposite end of the room from the doorway. Brush in slow, even strokes, with the brush at a slight angle. Make sure the polyurethane goes on thinly and evenly. Cover the whole floor.
- 5). Let the polyurethane dry overnight. Buff the surface with fine sandpaper, by hand, just enough to dull the shine of the polyurethane. Vacuum again.
- 6). Repeat the process of coating the floor in polyurethane and buffing it, for at least three coats. A fourth can be added if desired. Don't buff the final coat; leave it shiny. Let the final coat set for 48 hours before walking on the floor.
