DIY Wall Tile Installation
- 1). Measure up from the floor onto the wall by the height of the tile plus 1/4 inch and mark it. Take the line across the wall horizontally, using a level and pencil.
- 2). Make a second line that runs vertically through the first, from the bottom to the top of the wall, right at the center.
- 3). Apply tile adhesive over the bottom of the length of the wall, coming up 1 or 2 feet from the floor, using your notched adhesive trowel. You will be able to see the lines through the adhesive.
- 4). Press the bottom row of tiles in place under the horizontal line, starting at the middle vertical line and working your way toward the sides. Put spacers between the tiles. Cut the final tiles on the ends as needed on your tile cutter.
- 5). Hang the next row up, again starting at the vertical line and working your way to the sides. Build up the wall, course by course, until it's all covered.
- 6). Let the tiles set for 12 hours. Pull out the spacers.
- 7). Spread grout over the wall, starting at the top and working down, with your grout float. Press the grout into the spaces between the tiles while scraping it off the surface with the edge of the float. Use a damp sponge to wipe up the excess grout.
