How to Make an Indoor Awning Valance
- 1). Measure the distance between the cabinets on either side of the kitchen sink, or between the side walls in a dormer. Add one inch to the measurements to allow for hems.
- 2). Place one tension rod close to the ceiling and close to the wall. Place the second tension rod at a 45-degree angle at least 12 inches lower, near the edge of the cabinet or wall. Measure from the top of the top rod to the top of the bottom rod and add eight inches to the measurement, five inches for the overhang at the bottom of the awning and three inches for the curtain rod pocket at the top.
- 3). Cut fabric to measurement. Sew a 1/2-inch hem in a contrasting color of wide pocket bias tape along both sides and the bottom of the awning. Sew a pocket hem at the top of the awning that is wide enough for the rod to fit through.
- 4). Cut hook-and-loop tape 1/2 inch shorter than the width of the bottom rod. Place the sticky side of the hook tape facing the room across the width of the rod. Remove the tape on the back of the fuzzy side and stretch the awning fabric down and over this tape. Rub along the tape edge to secure the tape to the fabric.
