    • 1). Connect the appropriate cable from the laptop's output jack to an S-video input on your receiver. if the laptop has S-video, which is a round socket with four pin holes, then use a standard S-video cable. if the laptop has a 15-pin video socket, use a VGA to S-video adapter cable for the receiver connection.

    • 2). Connect the two plugs on each end of the stereo cable from the Y-adapter jacks to the audio inputs on the back of the receiver that go with the S-video connection used in the first step.

    • 3). Insert the small plug on the Y-adapter into your laptop's headphone jack.

    • 4). Turn on the power to all components and set the receiver's selector control knob on the front to inputs that connect it with your laptop. For instance, the connection might be labeled "Video 3."

    • 5). Press the "F" key with a monitor icon on the top row of your laptop keyboard and at the same time press and hold the "Fn" key. This turns off the laptop display and sends the video signal to your AV receiver.

    • 6). Insert a disc in your laptop and play back the DVD normally to transmit picture and sound to the receiver, which will send the audio signal to your speakers and the video to the TV.
