How to Make a Cowboy Shirt

Put a quote about cowboys with on your shirt, using fabric paint and letter stamps or stencils: "A cowboy is a man with guts and a horse," "Scars are cowboy tattoos with better stories" or "You can tell a true cowboy by the type of horse that he rides." Or use some tried-and-true cowboy wit: "Don't squat with your spurs on," "Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction" or "Always drink upstream from the herd." If you prefer, refer to yourself: "Born to Be a Cowboy" or "Casey is a Cowgirl." - 2

Say it with pictures. The possibilities for what to use are almost endless: cowboy hats and boots, a cow skull, wagon, chaps, bolo ties, pistols, rifles, coiled rope, Texas flag, bonnets, branding irons, handkerchiefs, bales of hay, daisies and wildflowers, spurs, saddles, horses, tumbleweed, longhorn steer, belt buckles, whips or wanted posters. Or, recreate posters from famous cowboy movies featuring John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, the Lone Ranger, and the like. Draw the picture onto your shirt, then bring it to life with brightly colored fabric markers and fabric paint and puffy paint in flat, glittery, shiny and metallic finishes. - 3

Another possibility is adorning your shirt with cowboy-themed articles. Sew on a pattern onto your shirt using scraps of material used in cowboy and cowgirl clothes and gear such as denim, gingham or red-checked fabric, suede, chambray or leather. Or sew on some decorative fringe. Or, loop string onto or glue a small chain onto keychains, pennants, jewelry and other such items with cowboy pictures on them; then stitch the items onto your shirt.
