How to Care for a Tattoo After Removal With the Ultralight-Q
- 1). Keep the area clean and dry after tattoo removal with the Ultralight-Q. Change bandages after bathing or as needed. Before replacing soiled bandages with clean gauze spread antibacterial ointment or cream over the area to help prevent infection.
- 2). Elevate the area (if possible) and apply ice packs to prevent or reduce swelling. After a removal treatment with the Ultralight-Q the area will swell for a few days. Using cold packs at regular intervals will reduce the swelling and numb the area, reducing pain caused by the treatment.
- 3). Take Tylenol or other pain medicines containing acetaminophen to treat pain caused by the procedure. The pain may last one to two days and is similar to the pain caused by a sunburn. Contact your doctor if pain lasts more than two days or if excessive blistering occurs.
- 4). Avoid direct sunlight once the bandages are removed. Tattoo removal with the Ultralight-Q lightens the tattoo area and can cause hyper-pigmentation. Exposing your newly removed tattoo to direct sunlight can disrupt the lightening process and cause additional skin pigment changes.
- 5). Do not peel or pick at dry or scabbing skin. The removal process will create a scab over the area that was once your tattoo. The scab will eventually fall away, taking the tattoo pigment with it. Picking or peeling your scab prematurely will expose healing skin to infection and can reduce the overall effectiveness of the treatment.
