    • 1). Turn off your cell phone and remove the back cover that houses your battery and SIM card. Pull out the SIM card, which is about the size of a postage stamp, and place it into your SIM card reader.

    • 2). Plug one end of your SIM card reader's cable into your computer.

    • 3). Go to Download.com and find a software program specifically meant for recovering SIM cards. This may cost up to $100, depending on the program. Download and install the software to your computer.

    • 4). Follow the software program's instructions on how to recover data from your SIM card. There may be a link that says "Read SIM" or "Recover SIM" that you need to click to start the retrieval process. It may ask you to choose which type of data you want to restore. You might be able to choose from "Contacts," "Text messages," or "Picture messages." Click on the type of data you want to retrieve.

    • 5). Wait for the program to download all of your SIM card's data and look at the results.
