How to Repair a Garden Water Fountain
- 1). Turn the fountain off, and then put on your goggles and heavy-duty gloves to prevent concrete dust from getting in your eyes and to keep from cutting your hands with the chisel. Wipe away any loose dirt from the fountain with the wire brush.
- 2). Place the chisel tip inside of the crack, hold it at a 45-degree angle and then tap the top of the chisel with the mallet to widen and deepen the damage. This will make it easier to fill with compound for the repair.
- 3). Wipe away the dust with the wire brush. Soak the area with the hose to prevent the existing concrete from pulling moisture out of the fresh compound.
- 4). Combine two parts sand and three parts Portland cement. Add small amounts of water as needed to prevent the mix from becoming too thick.
- 5). Fill the crack with the compound, using the putty knife to spread it evenly and smoothly.
- 6). Let the compound harden and cure for 24 to 48 hours before turning the fountain back on.
