How to Repair Latex Rubber Molds
- 1). Clean the mold of any remaining materials from a previous casting. Dust away any debris. Wash the mold with soap and water if necessary.
- 2). Locate the hole in the mold or figure out the way in which broken pieces fit together. Line up broken areas and try to fit them so that they appear seamless.
- 3). Refasten the broken parts of the mold. Apply a very thin layer of liquid latex to the broken areas by dipping you finger in the liquid and spreading it over the broken areas. Press the edges together and wipe away any extra liquid that oozes out of the cracks.
- 4). Rebuild any parts of the mold's exterior that are worn or missing. Spread liquid latex over frayed or worn or perforated sections (again, use you fingertip). Continue adding liquid in layers until it fills the holes and cracks.
- 5). Let the latex dry. This should only take a few minutes, unless the liquid is very thick in any area.
- 6). Trim away any excess liquid latex. If you've spread too much latex in any area, use scissors to trim away a flat area. Using a sharp craft knife, carefully carve down extra latex on raised or textured areas in the mold's detail.
