How to Make a Grilled Cheese in the Oven

Although it sounds unusual to not to actually "grill" a grilled cheese, there are other equally easy ways to make a to do it. Panini presses, jaffle irons, and toasters are just a few unconventional methods that all lead to grilled cheese perfection but surprisingly enough, the oven method works wonders in creating a delicious cheesy sandwich that is pretty similar to the original. 

All you need to make this sandwich is a few slices of bread, some cheese, butter, and an ovensafe baking sheet. Additionally, if your'e super hungry this might not be the method for you since the oven needs plenty of time to preheat.

Ingredients
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices (or 3 grams) of cheese
  • 2 pats of salted butter

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 8 minutes


  • Total Time: 23 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sandwich


Preparation

1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees fahrenheit. Butter one side of each slice of bread and place the bread - butter side down - on a baking sheet. Then evenly distribute the cheese on to each slice of bread.

2. Bake for a few minutes until the cheese begins to melt and the underside of the of the bread becomes toasted and golden brown. Gently remove the baking sheet from the oven. If you're adding filling, this is the time to do it.

If not, take one piece of the cheese toast and place it on on top of the other - so both pieces of cheese toast are touching each other and it looks like a normal grilled cheese sandwich. To make it more like a classic grilled cheese, try pressing down on the finished product so that the bread condenses and it flattens out.

3. Let it sit for a few minutes before you cut it so that the cheese won't ooze and the flavors have a chance to meld. Serve!
