How to Use Hair Curlers or Rollers
- 1). Choose the type of curlers you want according to the hairstyle you want. The smaller the barrel of the curler, the smaller and tighter the curl will be, the larger the barrel, the larger and looser the curl. Some curler sets come with varying sizes.
- 2). Apply an egg-sized dollop of mousse or a quarter-sized squirt of gel to your hair first and work it through with your fingers. You can add the gel to wet or dry hair. When added to wet hair, the gel will give you a shinier, slightly wet look besides helping to hold the curl later. When added to dry hair, the gel will help add body and hold the curl.
- 3). Use a comb to section off a piece of your hair about 1/4 inch wide. Comb through it to remove tangles.
- 4). Position the curler at the end of the section of hair and hold your hair next to the curler with your thumbs.
- 5). Hold the hair in place as you begin to roll the curler toward your scalp. You'll be able to let go of the hair in the middle after a roll or two.
- 6). Roll the curler all the way to your scalp and secure it with a pin or clip. Most curler sets come with securing devices made for those specific curlers.
- 7). Continue rolling sections of hair until your entire head is rolled.
- 8). Allow the curlers to stay in your hair for a while. Read the package directions concerning length of time for setting for your curls. Your curl may not set well if you take the curlers out before the recommended time.
- 9). Use your fingers to style your hair if you want most of the curl to stay for a while. Use a comb or brush if you want to loosen some of the curl.
- 10
Use a light hairspray or spritz to add holding power to your hairstyle.
