How to Apply Wall Texture with a Sprayer
- 1). Lay drop cloths and cover surrounding walls with plastic tarps and masking tape to prevent unwanted spills.
- 2). Wear goggles, gloves, a mask and protective clothing, and work in a well-ventilated area.
- 3). Thin down the joint compound in a plastic bucket with water until it reaches the consistency of pancake batter. Pour the mixture in a hopper gun.
- 4). Spray the hopper gun on a piece of cardboard to practice the sprayer's mechanisms and pressure.
- 5). Spray the wall with the hopper gun in a long, vertical strokes, being careful not to over-spray in one area. Let the compound set for 15 to 30 minutes until tacky.
- 6). Smooth out the dollops of compound with a trowel. Hold the trowel at an angle to avoid completely flattening the compound against the wall.
- 7). Flick joint compound mixture with a paintbrush onto any missed areas and flatten with a putty knife.
- 8). Let the wall dry for 24 hours. Prime and paint as needed.
