Students from around the world come to the United States to study. For many students, English is not their first language--these pupils are often referred to as English as a Second Language students. Boarding schools in the United States that offer ESL programs allow students to hone their English skills while also affording the opportunity to live and make friends right on campus. - The Winchendon School was founded in 1926 and offers a co-ed education to college bound high school students. The New England boarding school has an ESL program that affords instruction tailored to each student and includes study in the areas of listening and speaking, U.S. history and reading. The school also has a summer immersion program for ESL students that lasts approximately six weeks and allows learners to earn a full-year credit; the program includes writing, vocabulary development and excursions. The Winchendon School is home to an 18-hole golf course, arts facilities and a library with public computer access. Students may also participate in team athletics.
