How to Remove Fungus From Flooring Joists With Bleach
- 1). Open windows and doors and turn on any fans, if possible, to help ventilate and dry the area.
- 2). Place a dust mask over your nose and mouth to keep from inhaling fungus and mold spores. Put on rubber gloves.
- 3). Wipe the fungus from the floor joists with baby or sterile wipes.
- 4). Discard dirty wipes in a plastic trash bag.
- 5). Mix a solution of 1/4 to 1/2 cup bleach with 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Add the solution to a spray bottle.
- 6). Spray the solution on the floor joists. Allow the solution to sit on the joists for 15 minutes, then wipe down with a dry towel.
- 7). Mix a solution of 1 1/2 cups bleach with 1 gallon of water and spray the surface again if fungus remains. Allow the solution to sit for at least 15 minutes. Wipe down with a dry rag.
- 8). Rinse the joists with clean water. Then quickly dry the joists with a dry towel.
