How to Fix Stitches That Have Slipped Off a Knitting Needle

    When Stitches Slide Off Needles

    • 1). Stop knitting and loosen tension on the yarn.

    • 2). Slide the needle through the loop that fell off. Make sure the loop on the needle looks as though the leg facing you is a little more to the right than the back leg of the loop.

    • 3). Switch to bamboo needles. Metal and plastic needles are very slippery. Bamboo has texture that holds the yarn a little better.

    • 4). Loosen your grip on the yarn. Holding the yarn too taut makes it easy to lose stitches.

    Picking Up Dropped Stitches

    • 1). Loosen your tension and knit to the place where you see a ladder-like formation in your knitting. There should be a loop at the bottom, which is your initial stitch.

    • 2). Insert a crochet hook front to back through the stitch.

    • 3). Reach up to the first ladder-like rung of yarn, above the loop, and catch that rung in the hook.

    • 4). Pull the top rung down through the lower loop. Keep that stitch on your crochet hook.

    • 5). Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you have worked your loop to the top row you are knitting. Slide the loop off the crochet hook and onto the knitting needle and continue knitting.
