How to Apply Foundation If You're in Your 50s
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Squeeze out a pea-sized amount of makeup primer on one finger, and spread the primer out over all areas of your face in a very thin layer. Apply additional primer to any areas of wrinkles or fine lines to help fill them in. Primer helps foundation stay in place even if you are experiencing hot flashes or dry skin.
2
Purchase a moisturizing foundation that closely matches your skin tone, but stay away from those with peach undertones. Peach undertones make you look older, notes the "The Sydney Morning Herald." When testing foundation, apply a small amount to your jaw line, not the back of your hand.
3
Hold a makeup sponge under a running faucet until it is damp. Squeeze out as much of the water as possible.
4
Shake the foundation for five to 10 seconds to mix it up well. Apply a pea-sized amount to the damp makeup sponge.
5
Dot the foundation over your face, focusing on the forehead, nose, chin and both cheeks. Once applied, go back and blend the makeup outward from each spot using the sponge.
6
Blend the edges of the makeup down along the underside of your chin and jaw so that you don’t see a distinct line of makeup at that location.
