    • 1). Write the number of inch-pounds on a piece of paper. For example, say you want to convert 75 inch-pounds of torque to foot-pounds. Write "75" on a piece of paper.

    • 2). Divide the quantity in Step 1 by a factor of 12 inch-pounds per foot-pound (see Resources). In the example, 75/12 = 6.25 foot-pounds. Write the answer on your paper.

    • 3). Use an online tool such as the NMB Technologies Corporation Motor Measurement Conversion Tool (see Resources) to check your answer. Click on the blue box labeled "Torque". Below that, click on "lb-in" on the line labeled "Choose Units". Enter 75 in the "Convert From" box and click on "Calculate". Read "6.24975" in the "lb-ft" to the right. This rounds to 6.25, which is the answer you calculated in Step 2.
